Jahnsori Podcast: A Pilot
I’m not sure what the sign says either…but he might be onto something…
If you’re reading this, it means I trust/admire/lack your perspective.
At this point, I might be known for my various soapboxes that get me riled up and ranting. One particular topic that has always resonated with me is the idea of identity, especially as children of Korean-American immigrants. While there is nothing new under the sun, there are gaps in the conversation and safe spaces to wrestle through them.
So I thought…why not start a podcast?
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before…no seriously…
Imagine if we could tackle themes like vocation, relationships, finances, and why not religion, all through the contextual lens of a 2nd gen Korean-American. My goal is to find ourselves asking questions we might be scared to ask “where am I going?”…”why does it matter?”… “is it worth it?”. But here’s the twist, it wouldn’t be a genuine conversation if we didn’t fully bring ourselves and the voices in our lives that evolved to become our own. Our upbringing, education, even the jahnsori.
As of today, the average millennial is between 22-38 years old. By now we should have had enough life experiences to realize some of the nagging our parents loaded us down with had some merit and truth after all. So what does that mean for us now? Have we ever give ourselves the time to sit and consider if we’re missing something else? For a culture that heavily emphasized our ancestors, we seem to have lost touch.
So let’s give it a shot.
This project is about building a platform and bringing together the spectrum of voices: the rising star in the Big 4 consulting firm with the struggling artist, the recovering youth group church bum and the EDM festival go-er.
Let’s dig deeper beyond our stereotyped upbringing to embrace our unique identity to better understand ourselves and eventually everyone else.
This is the Jahnsori Podcast, where you won’t hear anything new, because you’ve heard it all before, but if you listen carefully enough…you just might learn a thing or two.
Stay tuned.
